Making a movie in the Hindi Film Industry is a massive responsibility, and usually, it costs a huge amount of money to create a decent film. With all the efforts and capital invested in a single movie, the entire Cast, and Crew, evidently, have high hopes and expectations. However, seldom, the expectations are not met and the films expected to become blockbusters, fail miserably and give no returns on the investment.
In this article, we have compiled a list of 8 Bollywood movies, which had huge budget and superstars, but still were a flop.
- Bombay Velvet
In 2015, Anurag Kashyap created a 125-crore budget film called Bombay Velvet, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma. Unfortunately, this movie proved to be one of the biggest flops of Bollywood till date. This disaster of a movie brought a loss of a hefty 100 crores. Moreover, it became a huge failure for Anurag Kashyap, as well as the main actors.
Hrithik Roshan’s effort of stepping into international cinema became a tragedy of his life. The movie Kites had all the spicy elements, the famous superstar, an exceptional music album, and a Mexican beauty as the female protagonist. They also had 150 crores at their disposal, however, the very mainstream script failed them all and made it a flop.
- Love Story 2050
With tons of VFX and special effects, this Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja movie couldn’t please the audience, rather they found it hilarious, which is not good given the movie was of the romantic genre. The script of the movie made no sense at all, and as a result, producer Harry Baweja lost an enormous sum of money.
The debut movie of Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, and made by the renowned Sanjay Leela Bhansali, this movie could have been a blockbuster, but it backfired miserably. This ‘blue-colored’ fiasco worth 40 crores could not impress the audience, and the movie suffered badly.
This star-packed movie with a budget of 129 crores had high expectations, but it was nothing but a huge, expensive mess. Even though it had talents like Sanjay Dutt and Akshay Kumar, consisted of exceptional underwater shots, and was shot in the Bahamas, yet, it could not be saved. The production spent a considerable amount on International star Kylie Minogue as well, who had a special appearance, but nothing could stop this from sinking.
- Chandni Chowk To China
Another ambitious project, Chandni Chowk To China, starring Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone, performed miserably on the Box-Office. This movie had a budget of 80 crores, but the ambiguous storyline, and an eccentric humor made it a laughing stock.
- Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja
Boney Kapoor invested all his money in this movie, starring Anil Kapoor and Sridevi. It had a budget of 9 crores, which was huge at that time. But the film itself was very weak, with tacky music and senseless dialogues, it was not long before audience started to criticise it.
Mani Ratnam’s comeback project, Raavan, was going to change the face of cinema, however, it fell on its face. Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan were in the lead roles, however, their weak acting and the confusing script resulted in the failure of this 100-crore budget movie.
It is true that Bollywood brings out the best of the stories in its movies, however, some movies become too complex for the audience, and in an attempt to become extraordinary, they lose all their charm and relevance.
